My Turning Point

In the late 1970s, I fired an employee because he was calm — and I wasn’t.

He stayed calm and kind, which only annoyed me more. Then he said something that changed everything:

“You could, not should, do something about your tone.”

He told me there were practices that could “clean the window of your mind.” Each time you practise, your view becomes calmer and clearer. Somehow, I took that on — and that was the beginning of everything.

Seeking Clarity

Materially, I was achieving plenty, but I wasn’t happy. Eventually, I gave my business to my staff, gave away my share in the yacht, and walked away to quieten my mind and refocus my life.

What I discovered was simple: most existing methods were unnecessarily complex. I didn’t need anyone’s beliefs or stories — I needed clarity.

If I was calmer today than yesterday, I was on track. That became my compass.

Building the Method

By the early 1980s, I recognized that not everyone could just stop their life to find balance — not unless something broke first.

So I built a method that could be lived — practical, measurable, cultural, and simple.
First published in the U.S. in 1983.

Even then disengagement was a silent pandemic, now with an increasingly louder hum in the machinery of every global enterprise.
